Save Your Scrapbooks to Your Computer!

July 23, 2010

Filed under: Tips and Tricks — Katy @ 11:16 am

Hey Everyone!
Please save all of your ScrapHD Scrapbooks to your computer prior to July 31st, 2010. After that date they will no longer be available!! In order to save your scrapbooks you will need to use the ‘Print from Home’ option found in the builder. It is really easy to do and will give you access to the high resolution .JPG format of your layouts. Once you have the .jpg file you can save it to your computer, print from home, save to a USB to bring elsewhere for printing, email it, post it to other websites, etc.

Follow the link below for a quick ‘Print from Home’ tutorial.

Hey Everyone!

I just got done with a really quick project that I thought I’d share. Just to give you a little bit of a background – I plan to walk the Susan G. Komen 3 Day Breast Cancer walk here in Chicago this summer. In case you aren’t familiar, it is a 60 mile/3 Day walk! Everyone who participates is required to raise a minimum of $2,300 for the cause.

I recently went to visit my boyfriend’s family in Florida and we had a jewelry fundraiser to raise money for the walk. Everyone’s jewelry just arrived for me to distribute out to everyone. I thought about just sending the packages right out, but then I remembered I recently came across an awesome Breast Cancer digi-kit that is also going towards Susan G. Komen! I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to use the kit! (Check out ScrapHD DT Member, Danielle Young’s, blog for more info on the kit!)

So, I followed the link from Danielle’s blog and purchased the Pink=Power Collab kit. ScrapHD Club Members have the ability to upload digi-kits and freebies from other sites and use them on ScrapHD! All you have to do is upload the files as you would a regular photo. I usually create a new folder to keep all of the contents of the kit grouped together within my ScrapHD account.

Next, I created my layout. You’ll notice that I left the journal tag blank. I did that on purpose so that after I printed my layout I could hand-write the note!

ScrapHD Club Members also have the ability to print from home. So when I was done with my layout I saved it and clicked the Print from Home button. A few minutes later I had the download file in my email waiting for me. I then chose to print it as an 8×8 layout. I printed enough copies for everyone who attended the party and wrote a different note for each of them. I thought it was a nice little addition to their jewelry delivery :)

Here is the ScrapHD version…

I’d love to see how you all are using your print from home files!!

I’ve been somewhat quiet lately, but I wanted to let you know that the biggest reason for my silence is we’ve just been so busy! We are constantly working to develop ScrapHD and the technology that powers our scrapbook builder. I LOVE the feedback we get from all of you! We get a lot of great feedback from our help desk, and often times people will email me directly. When I have Webinars I always urge everyone on the call to please not be shy!

So, in the spirit of not being shy….what types of things would you like to see on this blog? More tips and tricks for the site? More hybrid projects? Tutorial pages? Random scrapbook information? You tell me, because in my mind it is all about you :)

Last Minute Mother’s Day Idea!

May 7, 2010

Filed under: Make it Hybrid!, Tips and Tricks — Katy @ 1:34 pm

I’d first like to start with…if your name is Maria and you personally know me, stop reading this post immediately! I’m serious! I am going to ask you if you cheated and read this when I warned you not to ;) If you’re name is not Maria and you don’t personally know me you can continue reading…

Are you ready for Sunday? I am sure you are well aware that Mother’s Day is rapidly approaching! Just in case you haven’t done anything yet I thought I’d share a little project I did. You can definitely get this done in time for your plans with Mom this weekend! I made Maria stop reading because this is a gift for her! This is her first Mother’s Day and I am the Godmother to her beautiful daughter, Francesca Marie!image

I created this 8×8 Hybrid Scrapbook using the awesome theme templates available on ScrapHD, print from home, and some traditional scrapbooking supplies I had! This should be a pretty quick project for you if you use the templates like I did.

TO CREATE A BOOK LIKE THIS:

Step 1: Log into ScrapHD and click on CREATE A SCRAPBOOK

Step 2: Choose a theme template to start with or start from a blank canvas (note if you use 12×12 themes you can still print 8×8)

Here are some of the layouts I ended up with for my book…

12

1 (3)4 (2)

1 (2)2 (2)

These were ALL theme pages that I customized to my liking! (Hint: You can mix and match themes by adding pages to your scrapbook – just click on the IMPORT PAGE button and choose FROM A THEME)

STEP 3: Personalize the pages to make them your own! Add your pictures, journaling, move things around.

STEP 4: Print from home (I printed all of these as 8×8 layouts)

STEP 5: MAKE IT HYBRID!

Make it Hybrid just means take your digital creation one step further by combining it with traditional paper scrapbooking supplies! I added some brads, stickers, and bling that I already had in my stash to most of my digital pages. I decided to adhere them to a 7gypsies chipboard album. The album was naked so I used Tim Holtz Distress Crackle paint to liven it up and match the colors of my pages. Then all I had to do was bind it, which I did using the Zutter Bind-it-All.

I have a video of the finished project on my cell phone, but I can’t seem to figure out how to get it off of my phone and onto my blog!! I will add it as soon as I can figure it out. Ha! For someone who is pretty tech savvy, there are some things I just don’t get!

Please let me know if you have any questions or want further direction. I’m here to help!!

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!!

One of Many Reasons to Love Hybrid!

May 5, 2010

Filed under: Jenni Bowlin, Make it Hybrid! — Pharmgirl @ 7:34 am

Hi! I’m Betsy Sammarco and I’m guest blogging today!  I wanted to share with you one of the many reasons why I love hybrid scrapping.  My printer does not print full 12×12 pages. It used to drive me crazy until I found ways to work around it with hybrid scrapping.  If you don’t have a wide format printer, you should try this if you haven’t already!

You can use your standard printer to print out a smaller version of your layout and then adhere that to a 12×12 sheet and embellish.  It’s like having a layout within a layout! Here’s what I did:

I started with this ScrapHD Jenni Bowlin Theme called Country Colors:

sunshine and freedom theme

I changed the theme up a bit by using different patterned paper and inserting 2 photos instead of one:

sunshine and freedom digital part

I inserted this layout into a Word document and changed the size to 8×8 and printed it and adhered this smaller layout to a 12×12 sheet of Jenni Bowlin ledger paper and embellished:

sunshine and freedom hybrid

A layout within a layout!  Ahhhh, the joys of HYBRID!

Supplies:

Jenni Bowlin Digital Supplies and Theme Country Colors: ScrapHD.com

Jenni Bowlin Scalloped Notecards

Jenni Bowlin Die Cut Ledger Paper

Jenni Bowlin Royalty and Wings Rubon

Jenni Bowlin Chipboard buttons

shipping tag and twine

Have fun with Hybrid Scrapping!

Mother’s Day Card – How To

April 27, 2010

Filed under: Topic of the Day — Katy @ 12:08 pm

Hey Everybody!

Mother’s Day is right around the corner – have you thought about what you’re going to do for your Mom?? There are so many different ways that you can use ScrapHD to make your mom something special. Check out a couple of other projects we’ve featured on the blog, like this Hybrid Treasure Box or this Jenni Bowlin Banner. Or you can make her a card like the one I’m about to show you here designed by Danielle Young.

(make sure to push the play button to see the final product…)

Here are the detailed instructions to get this card done. It’s super easy!

First, you’ll find this card in the 12×12 Themes section. (Don’t worry, you can print it smaller if you need to later)
12x12theme

You’ll then want to do a search for the theme. This theme is called ‘Card for Mom’

card_for_mom

Select the ‘Card for Mom’ theme. The template will populate onto the canvas for you to begin working on. If you want to make any changes to the card you can do it now. Some examples of changes that you could make would be adding some journaling/text, changing the paper used, or adding some embellishments. I personally like it the way it is so I’ll move on to the next step…

The next thing to do would be to click the ‘Print from Home’ option on your screen.

pfh

Title your card whatever you’d like and save..You’ll see a couple of messages letting you know that we will email you the print from home file shortly. Please click ‘Yes’ and ‘OK’

yes

In just a few minutes you’ll receive an email with your print from home file!

Click on the file link found in the email…                         Choose to save the file and click ok…
file

save

You can now open the print from home file and save it to a folder on your computer. Just double click the file to open and do a file, save as.

Now you’ve done everything you need to do in order to get the file ready for printing! That was easy, right? It kind of looks like a lot of steps when you look at all of the pictures, but in reality that all took me about 2-3 minutes to do. So, here is the fun part

PRINTING YOUR CARD!

Step 1: Find the print from home file that you have already saved to your computer – I created a folder on my desktop and saved the file there.

Step 2: Right click on your file and choose to print

print

Step 3: Choose your print settings and click Print…since this template started as a 12×12, I know that I can print on 12″ paper and fold it in half for a 6×6 card. (I’ll show different size options below, but for now, here is how I did the 6×6)

printer_settings

Step 4: Trim the edges and fold

memcard 100

memcard 105

And that’s it!

6x6

If you don’t have a 12″ printer, just make a smaller card! I took all of the same steps listed above, but instead of choosing 12×12 for printing, I created a new setting on my printer for 8×8. I printed it out, trimmed the edges, and folded it to make a 4×4 card – perfect for attaching to a gift!

memcard 107

***Note*** In case you’re wondering how I created an 8×8 setting on my printer… When you get to your print options page, you should be see a drop down that allows you to choose your paper size. On my printer (Epson R1900) I am able to choose the option ‘User Defined’ – I can then create a custom size. For 8×8 you want to make the paper width and height 800.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this tutorial!! Let me know if you have any questions once you get started!!
