FREE vs CLUB

February 25, 2010

Filed under: Topic of the Day — Katy @ 6:50 pm

***hint***read this whole post to see how you could win a free month!

A lot of you have had some really good questions about the ScrapHD Club Membership, so I decided to dedicate an entire blog post to clarify..Hopefully this will answer most of your questions, but AS ALWAYS please let me know if there is anything else on your mind. Soooo, here’s the skinny on the differences between a free membership and a Club Membership

i like FREE ;)

Here is a quick overview of what you can do for free on ScrapHD!

~Number one, you can create and save up to 100 scrapbook pages. You can also upload up to 100 personal photos at a time. If you exceed 100, don’t worry, just delete the ones you’ve already used in your scrapbooks and replace them with new photos. Your photos WILL REMAIN in the scrapbooks they are already saved in. You can also share  your scrapbooks across the web- email, facebook, twitter, blogs, etc! And COMING SOON you’ll be able to order professional prints.

i DO like free, but I LOOOOVE A BARGAIN even more!!!

Why should you upgrade to a Club Membership??? I’ve got a list of reasons, one of them being that you can save up to 1,000 scrapbook pages at a time! I can honestly tell you that $9.99/month or $99/year (that’s 2 months free if you do the math!) is a steal when you break down everything you get…

UNLIMITED USE of DIGI DESIGNS FROM 14 TOP PAPER MANUFACTURERS!?!?

ummmm, 7gypsies, American Crafts, Art Gone Wild, Imaginisce, Jenni Bowlin, Kaisercraft, Karen Foster, Mrs. Grossman’s, My Mind’s Eye, Piggy Tales, SEI, Teresa Collins, Three Bugs, and We R Memory Keepers, anyone??!?

It almost sounds too good to be true. Think about it…on some sites you have to calculate what each and every background and embellishment is costing you. This paper may be a dollar, while this butterfly is 30 cents…By the time you’ve created just one page it can really get pricey! (Especially if you like to do a lot of layering like I do! :) ) Then what if you want to print that layout or scrapbook? That will be an additional cost on other sites. With ScrapHD you’ve used AS MANY designs as you can possibly fit on the page AND you can print it for one low fee! Which leads me into just that -

Print from Home!

The print from home feature is incredible. For no extra fee we will provide the high resolution (300dpi) .jpg file of your scrapbook! If you have a 12″ printer, great! You’ll be able to print those 12×12’s no problem. If you don’t have a 12″ printer,  you can still print your 5×7’s or 8×8’s! (*note 8×8 and 12×12 layouts are interchangeable when it comes to printing because they are both square).

The high resolution file that you use for printing can also be used for so much more! You can use that to post to galleries that except .jpg formats, you can create twitter backgrounds, desktop backgrounds, and so much more!

Ok, so those are two of the most obvious reasons to upgrade, but there are even more. Have you dabbled in digital scrapbooking before? Do you have a digi “stash” somewhere on your computer or external hard drive? Do you like browsing for digital freebies? Do you design your own digital elements? Or maybe you’re excited that another paper manufacturer has gone digital, but they aren’t currently a partner with ScrapHD? If you said yes to ANY of those questions then you’ll like this next one….

Upload any JPEG or PNG file!

This is AWESOME! When you purchase digital files or find freebies on the web you will notice that all of the embellishments come as .png files and the backgrounds come as .jpg files. So, in addition to the thousands of backgrounds and embellies available to our Club Members you can upload even more!

Upload multiple photos at a time!

I would put money on it that 98% of you out that have TONS of photos you still need to scrapbook ;) We’ve included a little time saver for Club Members. Rather than waiting for each and every photo to upload individually, you can hold down that handy Ctrl button on your keyboard and highlight as many photos as you’d like to upload all at once! Love it!

We then figured, if you’re going to be uploading multiple photos (Club Members can save up to 1,000 at a time on the site!) then we should also probably give you a way to organize them…Hence the next Club Member benefit..

Organize your photos/uploaded files into folders!

For example, I have folders set up for all of my Winter Photos, Niece and Nephew, .png files, Family, etc. So when I’m creating a new scrapbook they are nicely saved right in my ScrapHD account and easily accessible! It definitely beats having to scroll through multiple pages of photos to find the ones I want to use.

…and last, but not least

Access to exclusive Club Member contests and prizes!

Right now we are running the Scrap Your Pet Contest. Club Members have the chance to win $50 to their favorite scrapbook store!

So there you have it. I think I broke it down so you all could understand it a little better! I’m giving away a free month long Club Membership on our Facebook page right now. All you have to do is comment on the post that asks which Club Member feature you’d like the most! Hurry because I said I was going to pick a winner today – unfortunately my blog post kept getting pushed later and later today, but you still have time! Go post your comment right now and I’ll pick the random winner tomorrow!

Have a great night! xoxo,

How To: Create a (print from home) Thank You Card

February 22, 2010

Filed under: Tips and Tricks — Katy @ 2:10 pm

It’s Monday again! On Friday I posted a link on the ScrapHD Facebook page to a thank you card I had created and planned to print from home and send out. I did do just that and thought I would share the process with all of you. It was so simple to do, and I’m sure my boyfriend’s mom will love it when she gets it :)

First, I signed into ScrapHD and chose to start with a theme. I LOVE the themes because they are fully customizable. You can make a layout by simply adding your pictures, or you can completely modify it to make it your own. That’s what I did here!

I took this theme…

…and turned it into this….

I created a quick video to show you how I modified the Puppy Love Theme to turn it into my own Thank You Card..

Untitled-2

STEP 1: Sign into ScrapHD
STEP 2: Create a Scrapbook/Start with a Theme
STEP 3: Choose Puppy Love
STEP 4: Make your changes to the theme
STEP 5: Print from home – available to Club Members!

PRINT FROM HOME:
I received my print from home file that was emailed to me from ScrapHD and I downloaded it to my computer. I then opened the file and chose to print. The printer we use here is the Epson R1900, which is AWESOME! You can even print 12×12’s on it! For this card I was printing 5×7. The photo paper I used was 8.5 x 11 so I loaded that into my printer.

printer

I then edited my printer settings: I chose 5×7/Borderless and printed my card

Since I printed my 5×7 on 8.5×11 paper I had to cut it down to the right size for my thank you card

cut

I cut the edge off first and then I took an inch off of the top

cut 2

I then used my Score-It board to make the crease for my card

That’s it!!Let me know if you have ANY questions about printing from home or using themes – or really anything else for that matter! I know that I’ll be using this to do all of my thank you cards, and even invitations! If you do anything using the builder/print from home I’d love to see it!

ScrapHD Retail Partners

February 19, 2010

Filed under: Info for Scrapbook Retailers — Katy @ 9:29 am

Sorry it has been a couple of days since I last posted a blog – time is just flying by! We have been busy here at ScrapHD getting our Licensing Program for Scrapbook Retailers off the ground!! Basically, we are offering the ScrapHD Builder Application to retailers – which means they can have their own builder with their logo/colors right on their own site!

I don’t know if many of you know this, but our parent company is a wholesale distributor to scrapbook retail stores. They sell to over 2,500 retail stores and for over 90 manufacturers. Our lives revolve around the scrapbooking industry and digital was a natural step in the direction of the future. We didn’t want to neglect our core business though, so ScrapHD (Hybrid Designs) was born.

Hybrid Designs refers to combining the tools and techniques of traditional paper scrapbooking with the tools and techniques of digital scrapbooking. Because we offer printing in traditional scrapbook sizes (12×12, 8×8, 5×7) it provides the ideal situation for hybrid. Create your layouts, print, add physical embellishments, choose an album, page protectors, etc.. For some Hybrid examples click on the Make it Hybrid link to the right of this blog. It truly is the best of both worlds!

So yesterday we launched our first Licensee! We are very excited to have A Cherry On Top as our first retail partner. You may have already noticed in the ScrapHD Community that some of the scrapbooks show up with A Cherry On Top’s logo. Here is an example of what a finished scrapbook looks like when created through ACOT’s builder…

Pretty soon you will start seeing more retail partners pop up on the site. If you have found ScrapHD through your scrapbook retailer, AWESOME and WELCOME! If you are a retailer and have any questions about the program please fill out the form found here and we will respond promptly!

Happy Friday – Have a fabulous weekend!

Just for Fun

Happy Fat Tuesday!

My best friend, who is a teacher, recently introduced me to Google Forms and I’ve been using them every chance I get ever since! I don’t know why, but I just love creating them… Anyways, I thought it would be fun to create a form to learn more about all of you! The cool part is you will be able to see all of the responses when you submit your own. It’s just a way to see who is here, who else is reading the blog, and what you’d like to see more of. So what are you waiting for, it just takes a second and I’d love to hear from you :) Oh, and don’t forget to fill in the last question ~ it will be fun to see all of the random and funny facts! I’ll also try to post the results later..

Thanks! I can’t wait to read your responses!

Last Minute Valentine

February 13, 2010

Filed under: Topic of the Day — Katy @ 9:01 am

Yes, it’s true…Valentine’s Day is already tomorrow! In honor of the love-fest I am going to share with you a quick hybrid project ScrapHD Design Team member, Laura Burger, did with her 5 year old God-daughter. If you have a little one who would love to make her daddy or man in her life a special Valentine maybe this will spark some ideas for you! There is still time!

Materials Used:
ScrapHD.com scrapbook builder
Print from Home (available to Club Members)
Heart Shaped Box
Glitter
Crepe Paper
Flower Embellishments
Glue

~Laura sat at the computer with her 5 year old God-daughter and logged into ScrapHD.com. Based on the size of their heart shaped box, she chose to do a 5×7 layout

~She let her God-daughter choose the background paper and embellishments to add to the canvas. I do this with my 3 year old niece, too and she LOVES picking out what we should ‘play with’ on the screen. (Man, we are starting kids out early with this stuff ;) )

~Once they were satisfied with the Love layout they clicked on Print From Home, which is available to ScrapHD Club Members

~They printed the page, glued it to the heart box, added some glitter and flowers to Make it Hybrid, and voila! A personalized Valentine that her daddy will treasure forever!

With the ability to print from home there is still enough time to make a really great Valentine for the loves in your life! You can print 12×12, 8×8, and 5×7 to make layouts, cards, or any hybrid project you can come up with! I love how easy this one was and that Laura’s God-daughter can be proud of her hard work…

Happy Valentine’s Day,
