Last Minute Mother’s Day Idea!

May 7, 2010

Filed under: Make it Hybrid!, Tips and Tricks — Katy @ 1:34 pm

I’d first like to start with…if your name is Maria and you personally know me, stop reading this post immediately! I’m serious! I am going to ask you if you cheated and read this when I warned you not to ;) If you’re name is not Maria and you don’t personally know me you can continue reading…

Are you ready for Sunday? I am sure you are well aware that Mother’s Day is rapidly approaching! Just in case you haven’t done anything yet I thought I’d share a little project I did. You can definitely get this done in time for your plans with Mom this weekend! I made Maria stop reading because this is a gift for her! This is her first Mother’s Day and I am the Godmother to her beautiful daughter, Francesca Marie!image

I created this 8×8 Hybrid Scrapbook using the awesome theme templates available on ScrapHD, print from home, and some traditional scrapbooking supplies I had! This should be a pretty quick project for you if you use the templates like I did.

TO CREATE A BOOK LIKE THIS:

Step 1: Log into ScrapHD and click on CREATE A SCRAPBOOK

Step 2: Choose a theme template to start with or start from a blank canvas (note if you use 12×12 themes you can still print 8×8)

Here are some of the layouts I ended up with for my book…

12

1 (3)4 (2)

1 (2)2 (2)

These were ALL theme pages that I customized to my liking! (Hint: You can mix and match themes by adding pages to your scrapbook – just click on the IMPORT PAGE button and choose FROM A THEME)

STEP 3: Personalize the pages to make them your own! Add your pictures, journaling, move things around.

STEP 4: Print from home (I printed all of these as 8×8 layouts)

STEP 5: MAKE IT HYBRID!

Make it Hybrid just means take your digital creation one step further by combining it with traditional paper scrapbooking supplies! I added some brads, stickers, and bling that I already had in my stash to most of my digital pages. I decided to adhere them to a 7gypsies chipboard album. The album was naked so I used Tim Holtz Distress Crackle paint to liven it up and match the colors of my pages. Then all I had to do was bind it, which I did using the Zutter Bind-it-All.

I have a video of the finished project on my cell phone, but I can’t seem to figure out how to get it off of my phone and onto my blog!! I will add it as soon as I can figure it out. Ha! For someone who is pretty tech savvy, there are some things I just don’t get!

Please let me know if you have any questions or want further direction. I’m here to help!!

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!!

One of Many Reasons to Love Hybrid!

May 5, 2010

Filed under: Jenni Bowlin, Make it Hybrid! — Pharmgirl @ 7:34 am

Hi! I’m Betsy Sammarco and I’m guest blogging today!  I wanted to share with you one of the many reasons why I love hybrid scrapping.  My printer does not print full 12×12 pages. It used to drive me crazy until I found ways to work around it with hybrid scrapping.  If you don’t have a wide format printer, you should try this if you haven’t already!

You can use your standard printer to print out a smaller version of your layout and then adhere that to a 12×12 sheet and embellish.  It’s like having a layout within a layout! Here’s what I did:

I started with this ScrapHD Jenni Bowlin Theme called Country Colors:

sunshine and freedom theme

I changed the theme up a bit by using different patterned paper and inserting 2 photos instead of one:

sunshine and freedom digital part

I inserted this layout into a Word document and changed the size to 8×8 and printed it and adhered this smaller layout to a 12×12 sheet of Jenni Bowlin ledger paper and embellished:

sunshine and freedom hybrid

A layout within a layout!  Ahhhh, the joys of HYBRID!

Supplies:

Jenni Bowlin Digital Supplies and Theme Country Colors: ScrapHD.com

Jenni Bowlin Scalloped Notecards

Jenni Bowlin Die Cut Ledger Paper

Jenni Bowlin Royalty and Wings Rubon

Jenni Bowlin Chipboard buttons

shipping tag and twine

Have fun with Hybrid Scrapping!

If you decide to enter you’ll have the chance to win your layout printed on 12×12 ScrapHD photo paper! Not only that, but we will frame it in a shadow box and send it to you so you can display your work at your home or office! You’ll have the choice of a black or white frame! (Pictured 12×12 layout hanging on wall in white frame). These shadow boxes are awesome because they look great hanging on the wall or sitting on a shelf. You can also add embellishments on the inside or decorate the outside to make it hybrid!

We will choose 2 random entries (one from Facebook, one from Twitter) when ScrapHD reaches 1,000 Facebook fans and again when we reach 600 Twitter followers! So get your entry in and help us reach those numbers!

Here are the details…

-CREATE A 12×12 LAYOUT USING SCRAPHD

Hybrid Treasure Box How-To (Ellen Hutson)

Filed under: Make it Hybrid! — Katy @ 3:44 pm

Hello blog world! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! We had absolutely gorgeous weather here in Chicago for Easter. It was sunny and low 70’s for most of the day! It made for some great egg-hunting weather for all of the little cousins in my family.

Well, now that Easter has already come and gone, it is almost time for MOTHER’S DAY! Yes, we have almost a month, but with the way time has been flying by it is best to get your ideas together now. There are so many different ways you can use ScrapHD for Mother’s Day presents, use your imagination with the print from home option!!

One of our retail partners, Ellen Hutson LLC, does amazing work. She loves to share tutorials and specials with her customers. She created a beautiful memory box using hybrid techniques with the images available digitally via ScrapHD and traditional craft supplies. Take a look at the box and her easy to follow instructions!

She even has a list of all the supplies she used. You can get them all right on her website. Right now the Cosmo Cricket Memory Box, which is the foundation of this project, is on special for only $3.50. What a fun present to make for mom!

Enjoy!!

Print from Home

Filed under: Make it Hybrid!, Tips and Tricks, Topic of the Day — Katy @ 3:20 pm

Wow, it is already almost the weekend! I have to admit, I was a little screwed up all week with the time change – gotta love the extra daylight though!! We’ve actually had a little bit of Spring weather here this week, too! I’m hoping it sticks around one more day for my nephew’s first birthday party, but I think it is supposed to get cold again :(

So anyways, today I wanted to share some more information about printing from home…Club Members can print from home as much as they’d like because it is all included in the $9.99 monthly fee (or $99 yearly fee). The print from home feature is awesome for ALL types of scrapbookers. When I say all types of scrapbookers I mean traditional paper, digital, and hybrid scrapbookers. I’ll break them down into those categories real quick

Traditional Scrappers: For $9.99/month you have literally THOUSANDS of papers and embellishments that you can print from the comfort of your own home! Even if you don’t have any desire to create digital layouts – you can still use the supplies! I know you are all exceptionally creative, so use your imagination and take advantage of the deal!

Digital Scrappers: This one is obvious, create your layouts and print them from home for instant gratification and bragging rights to your family :) If you don’t have a printer capable of printing 12×12’s you can always print 8×8 and 5×7.

Hybrid Scrappers: This is my personal favorite – combine digital with traditional! There are so many printing options for this type of scrapper. Create full layouts, print, add embellishments, and put them in albums/bind them, etc. OR do hybrid other types of projects and print papers/embellies to add to your work. Print whatever you want from the site – the possibilities are endless when it comes to what you can do from there!

Printer: I have a lot of people ask me how to get the best print results when printing from home. I am partial to my Epson R1900 which is capable of printing everything up to 12×12. I am not only partial to this printer, I am borderline obsessed. Ha! *Note – Epson is not a sponsor or affiliated with ScrapHD in any way, I just like my prints!* Seriously though, this is a printer that retails for about $400. I know that is expensive, but I don’t think it is insane if you plan to use it. I actually found mine on Ebay for $380 -with free shipping because it happened to be a local seller! There is also an older model of this printer which is also great and you can probably find it for a little less mondy, the Epson R1800.

Ink: Another thing that comes up in almost every print from home discussion is “how much ink will I be using?” This is definitely something to consider, and it’s another reason I like the Epson printers. The ink cartridges are all individual, so you can purchase the colors you need on an as-needed basis, which can be helpful. The cost to print from home will vary depending on a few factors. One being, what colors are being used and the complexity of the layout. I’ve been told a 12×12 layout can cost between 65 cents to $1.75 depending on what you’re trying to print.

Paper: We found that there was a NEED for scrapbooking photo paper that was high quality and affordable. So we came out with ScrapHD Photo Paper for scrapbooking! It prints incredibly – I promise it is top quality. It comes in true 12×12 and 8×8 size. If you want to know more about it or where you can get your hands on some leave me a comment. I’d be happy to point you in the right direction!

Let me know if you have any other questions about printing from home. Once you start doing it, it becomes addicting. I no longer purchase greeting cards for anybody, I create a personalized card on ScrapHD and print it (and sometimes hybrid it up) before giving it to the lucky recipient ;)

Have a fabulous weekend! I’ll be eating cake with my adorable 1 yr. old nephew!

home bliss home

Howdy everybody! I’ve got a fun project to share with you today! I’m sure you’ve noticed how hot banners are lately – they’re EVERYWHERE! Well, Betsy from Jenni Bowlin’s digi-design team shared how she created the above banner using ScrapHD. ANNNND the coolest part is, she has made it a theme in the builder so you can easily create it yourself! I decided to post it here as well so that you guys all know it is available to you..

Here’s what you do:
1. Log into ScrapHD and click Create a Scrapbook

2. Choose to Start with a Theme

3. Sort by Manufacturer and choose Jenni Bowlin

4. Choose the Home Bliss Home Banner (available only to Club Members)

The images you need will all be available in this theme and there is even a page of instructions when you open up the theme!

I’ll also post the step by step instructions here:

Print 2 copies of page 1 (red butterfly and brown bingo card) on cardstock.

Print 1 copy of page 2 (brown butterfly and red bingo card) on cardstock.

Print 2 copies of page 3 (house) on cardstock.

Cut out the butterflies, bingo cards, and houses.

Ink the edges of the cuts.

Adhere the bingo cards to the butterflies and sew along the edges of the cards.

Print 2 photos approximately 4.5 x 3 inches and sew onto house cuts.

Decorate the 5 pieces with Jenni Bowlin chipboard milk caps and baker’s twine.

Insert eyelets into the top of each piece.

String baker’s twine through eyelets, tying as you go to keep the pieces from sliding.

String a large button on either end of the banner string.

Tye fabric pieces along the baker’s twine.

Notes:

The samples were printed on white textured cardstock to give the pieces a soft feel.
If you want to make a longer banner, simply print more pages :-)

Love Wall Hanging

February 8, 2010

Filed under: Amy Teets, Make it Hybrid!, SEI — Amy @ 4:20 pm

I’m handing the blog over to ScrapHD Design Team Member, Amy Teets today! She did a fun Hybrid Valentine’s Day project using the Print From Home option available to Club Members. If you have any questions post them here, I know she’d be happy to answer! We’d also love to see the Hybrid projects YOU come up with for V-day! Thanks for sharing, Amy!

——————————————————————————-

I wanted to show everyone that just printing your layouts from ScrapHD is one option, but there are other possibilities!  I turned this “Diva” chipboard book into a “Love” wall hanging.  I already had some of SEI’s Joliet Chocolate Collection in my stash and they also have this collection in the builder as well ;)   I then went into the builder and started a new 5×7 layout and just chose a frame, the one I used is from Laura Burger, and I put my photo underneath it.  I then chose the “Print from Home” option.  From here you can go back into the website and log in.  Then  click on “My Scrapbooks” and it will bring up all your layouts along with a way to download your files.  I  downloaded and resized a bit to fit on my project.  Printed out the file and cut out around the frame and there you have it!  Just in time for Valentine’s Day!

Make it Hybrid

Filed under: 7gypsies, Jenni Bowlin, Karen Foster Design, Kelly Shults, Make it Hybrid!, Teresa Collins — Katy @ 12:23 pm

Today I am going to post about something that gets me reallllly excited. I’m not kidding, Hybrid Scrapbooking is where it’s at! If you like to digital scrapbook you should really take the extra step to print and add physical embellishments to Make it Hybrid. The examples I’m about to post were done by Kelly Shults, one of the incredibly talented ScrapHD Design Team Members.

She created all of her layouts on ScrapHD and printed them from home. The print from home quality is A-MAZ-ING. We used ScrapHD Photo Paper (email me if you want to know how to get your hands on some) and an Epson R1900 printer.

I’m going to post all of the layouts here. Promise me you won’t read the captions underneath until AFTER you’ve tried to figure out what was done on ScrapHD and what was scrapbooked the traditional way. Let me know how you do with your guessing!!!

Cover

She used a black Zutter Cover All for the cover of her album. I don’t believe anything on the cover is digital. She used mostly 7gypsies products except for that awesome Karen Foster Butterfly Rub-On! (tip: go to your local scrapbook retail store to find products like these!!! if you’re looking for something in particular make sure to call ahead!)

DAYDREAMER

Daydreamer is ALL DIGITAL except for the Jenni Bowlin Buttons! She also used Stickles on the swirls which really added dimension. Love it!

CHRISTMAS

The Birds, Numbers/t, and Tags are all physical product from 7gypsies added after she printed the layout.

FIVE

This is another hybrid layout using 7 Gypsies products. The rub-ons, the number 5, journaling sheet, and tags are all physical product, the rest is digital.

MY HERO

We have a 7gypsies fan on our hands :) 7 Gypsies products (MY letters, tag, and journaling sheet, 7 Gypsies ephemera and brad.)
She created a pocket at the top of her digital layout for her journaling card.

MOMENTS

Moments is digital except for the beautiful Teresa Collins Pearl Brads, and Jenni Bowlin Buttons. Simple, but gorgeous additions to her digital page.

Sooooo, how’d you do!? I bet there was at least one digital element on those pages that fooled you ;)   I’d love to hear what types of hybrid projects our ScrapHD users have done. I’ll be posting Hybrid stuff on here regularly. I’ll even post yours if you’ve done something cool using ScrapHD – just send me a message!

xoxo,

Halloween Prize Pack

September 10, 2009

Filed under: Beta Testing, Make it Hybrid! — Katy @ 2:03 pm

Happy Thursday, Beta Testers!!

Today is a fun day because I get to announce another giveaway challenge!! Have any of you wondered what the HD stands for in ScrapHD? A lot of people immediately think High Definition, which I think is a really cool way to think of digital layouts, BUT the HD in our name is actually for Hybrid Designs. Hybrid Designs means combining the tools and techniques of digital scrapbooking and traditional paper scrapbooking. I like to think of it as the best of both worlds.

So, this week’s giveaway is a Halloween Prize Pack filled with tons of stuff to Make it Hybrid! We are giving you a chance to win everything pictured below!

*Prize Pack includes a Pink Zutter Bind-it-All, 13×13 Black Zutter Cover-All, 1″ Zutter Black Wire, Teresa Collins 12×12 Page Protectors, Teresa Collins October 31st & Halloween Notebook Stamps, tons of Mrs. Grossman’s Stickers (Little Ghost, Spider Web, Night Creatures, Haunted House, Monsters, Mummy, Pumpkin Patch), and tons of Karen Foster Halloween stuff (Halloween Deco Brads, Halloween Scrap Plate, Halloween Stacked Statements, Halloween Treats Stickers, Halloween Trimmings)*

It’s simple to enter! We are doing these challenges to get as much interaction as possible with our beta testers. The more you play around on the site and the more you tell us what you like, don’t like, or would like to see, the better ScrapHD will be when we launch! With that in mind, here’s what you have to do to enter…

  • Create an account on www.scraphd.net (or use your existing account if you already have one)

  • Publish AT LEAST ONE scrapbook page using our builder

  • Send us some feedback – you can post your feedback on this blog, use the FEEDBACK buttons on the ScrapHD site, or send us an email to support@scraphd.com. You MUST tell me your ScrapHD user name to be entered

*Contest Deadline is FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 18th @ 12pm (noon) CST*

Just like the last challenge this will be a random drawing. We’ll enter everybody’s name who qualifies and draw a winner. As long as you’ve created a layout, sent some feedback and your user name you’re good to go!

————————————————————————————————————————————————-
——————————————————————————————————————————–

Here’s a little bit more about Hybrid Designs..

ScrapHD gives you an easy to use platform to create your layouts digitally (without all of the mess) and then when we are out of beta testing you will be able to print in traditional scrapbook sizes. In addition to pre-bound books we are going to offer single page prints in 12×12, 8×8, & 5×7 (professionally and at home), which will make it easy for you to then choose your own album or binding, and add physical embellishments for dimension.

Here is one example of a Hybrid Design:

The layout was created digitally, we printed it on 12×12 paper, then used our Zutter Bind-it-All for the album, and added embellishments. Such a fun way to personalize your digital scrapbooks!

Good luck to everyone in the challenge. I can’t wait to hear all of your feedback and see what you create in the builder!
