Help!

April 13, 2010

Filed under: Topic of the Day, Webinars — Katy @ 11:38 am

Ok, so as you probably know, we’ve been holding free Webinars pretty frequently. I’ve loved meeting all of you on there and walking you through the site! We have gotten to a point now where those who have already attended the initial Webinar are looking for more! I have had a handful of people ask me if we will start doing Webinars with more advanced content. I would LOVE to incorporate more content into the Webinars.

So here is where I need your help. What specifically would you like to learn on our upcoming Webinars? We could create specific layouts, we could walk through a hybrid project, or whatever you would like to do. The options are endless, just let me know and if there is enough demand, we will make it happen!

Please leave a comment here on the blog or on Facebook letting me know your ideas.

Thanks ahead of time – let’s have some fun!

Theme Thursdays

April 8, 2010

Filed under: Tips and Tricks, Topic of the Day — Katy @ 3:46 pm

I have decided to dedicate Thursdays to showcase the themes found in the ScrapHD builder application. In case you are wondering what the heck a theme is I’ll give you the scoop here…

A theme is a fully customizable, pre-designed template. They are great to work with because you have the choice of just adding your own photo and journaling or moving things around and really making it your own. To start with a theme you’ll want to click the “Create a Scrapbook” button to get started. A screen will then pop up asking what product you’d like to create and if you’d like to start from a blank canvas or from a theme.

create

Choose to start with a theme, then find the one you would like to use. A theme can consist of one page, or sometimes even more. You have the choice to add more pages or delete unwanted pages. You can also mix and match themes. So say you want to create an entire scrapbook using the pre-designed templates – you can totally do that! I’ve added a video at the bottom of this post to show you how to work with themes and add multiple pages.

Before I show you that though, take a look at some of the templates available for Club Members! These themes can all be found in the 3 Bugs in a Rug section…and remember, you can move things around, add embellishments, delete unwanted photos, change the paper, etc!! ADIOS COOKIE CUTTER, NON-CUSTOMIZABLE TEMPLATES!

Facebook Connect on ScrapHD

April 7, 2010

Filed under: Tips and Tricks — Katy @ 10:34 am

Today I wanted to dedicate a blog post to show you all of the great ways you use Facebook and ScrapHD together. We have added a feature called Facebook Connect to the site. What this does is it allows you to receive automatic prompts to post your ScrapHD activities to your Facebook wall.

To get started you will first want to log into ScrapHD. When you log in, you will automatically land on the ‘My Account’ page which is pictured below. Notice the pink arrow pointing to the Facebook Connect link. You will want to click on that…

log_in

  • If you are already logged into Facebook on your computer we may recognize the cookies. If you see a message that you are already logged into Facebook then you do not have to take any more steps.
  • If you are not yet logged into Facebook you will want to click the blue ‘Connect’ button.

connect

In the above picture you can see that when you click the blue ‘Connect’ button a Facebook screen pops up prompting you to enter you username and password. Once you go ahead and do that you will be connect to your Facebook account through ScrapHD.

Now that you are connected to Facebook, you will be prompted to add you ScrapHD activities to your Facebook Wall. For instance if you ‘Like’ somebody’s scrapbook you will be able to share that on Facebook..

likesb

After you click the ‘Like’ button the Facebook posting option will automatically pop up! You can then add your own message and publish to your Facebook wall.

pub

You can also share your scrapbooks on Facebook automatically. First,  you will want to save/publish your scrapbook..

publish

Name your scrapbook, add any keyword tags you’d like, make it public to allow sharing, and publish.

saving

After you click ‘Publish’ you will get another automatic pop-up asking if you would like to post your scrapbook to Facebook. Click on ‘Authorize’

authorize

First, a new window will open verifying that you are logged into Facebook already. You can close that window and return to the ScrapHD builder to publish

close

You will then see the Facebook posting window – you can add your own message and publish to your wall for all of your friends to see

publish

That’s it! It seems like a lot of steps when I post it all in pictures, but the whole process really takes just a minute and the system walks you  right through it!

There are more ways too that you can post on Facebook! Keep an eye out for another post giving you more pointers! As always, let me know if you have any questions!!

Win a framed 12×12 print!

April 6, 2010

Filed under: Contests, Make it Hybrid! — Katy @ 12:25 pm

Today is a rainy, dreary day here in Chicago, so to brighten things up I’ve decided to start a new contest! I hope you’ll play along! If you decide to enter you’ll have the chance to win your layout printed on 12×12 ScrapHD photo paper! Not only that, but we will frame it in a shadow box and send it to you so you can display your work at your home or office! You’ll have the choice of a black or white frame! (Pictured 12×12 layout hanging on wall in white frame). These shadow boxes are awesome because they look great hanging on the wall or sitting on a shelf. You can also add embellishments on the inside or decorate the outside to make it hybrid!

2010-04-06 12.13.55

We will choose 2 random entries (one from Facebook, one from Twitter) when ScrapHD reaches 1,000 Facebook fans and again when we reach 600 Twitter followers! So get your entry in and help us reach those numbers!

Here are the details…

-CREATE A 12×12 LAYOUT USING SCRAPHD
You can start from a blank canvas or a theme. There are no requirements as to what you should scrap about, just make sure it is something you’d like framed! It could make a great Mother’s Day or birthday present!

-PUBLISH YOUR LAYOUT TO THE SCRAPHD COMMUNITY
Make sure you choose ‘Public Access’ when you publish
When you save your layout you can tag it with the keywork Contest 406 (this will help others browse through the entries, but is not required)

-BECOME A FAN OF SCRAPHD ON FACEBOOK or FOLLOW US ON TWITTER and share your entry with us there!
You can post the direct link to our Facebook Wall. If you share it on twitter make sure to @ScrapHD us!

You can enter as many times as you’d like. Each entry you post to Facebook and Twitter will be counted. You can get a bonus entry for both drawings by commenting on this blog with a link to your layout(s). When we reach 1,000 Facebook fans we will choose a random entry from Facebook. When we reach 600 Twitter followers we will choose a random entry from Twitter.

Ready, set, go!

Filed under: Make it Hybrid! — Katy @ 3:44 pm

Hello blog world! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! We had absolutely gorgeous weather here in Chicago for Easter. It was sunny and low 70’s for most of the day! It made for some great egg-hunting weather for all of the little cousins in my family.

Well, now that Easter has already come and gone, it is almost time for MOTHER’S DAY! Yes, we have almost a month, but with the way time has been flying by it is best to get your ideas together now. There are so many different ways you can use ScrapHD for Mother’s Day presents, use your imagination with the print from home option!!

One of our retail partners, Ellen Hutson LLC, does amazing work. She loves to share tutorials and specials with her customers. She created a beautiful memory box using hybrid techniques with the images available digitally via ScrapHD and traditional craft supplies. Take a look at the box and her easy to follow instructions!

A change you may notice today..

March 30, 2010

Filed under: Tips and Tricks, Topic of the Day — Katy @ 11:08 am

Hey Everyone,
Thanks for stopping by the blog! I’m excited about all of the new accounts that have been created, all of the new Facebook fans we’ve gotten this week, and well, for just about everything! We’re working hard over here at ScrapHD to make this a great site for you. We are getting better and better every day. Most of it is because of the awesome feedback we have received. If you stick around long enough, you’ll see that we really listen to you and love your ideas! So, please, keep them coming :)

There is a change on the site today that you may have already noticed if you’ve created a scrapbook. We’ve changed the screen that pops up when you click on “Create a Scrapbook” to make it a little more intuitive. (Intuitive is a big word around here, we want to make this site simple enough for beginners, while maintaining advanced features, like shadowing). Anyways, here is what the new screen looks like when you begin a new scrapbook…

new_page_2

So, what you’ll notice is you now have more options to choose from right from the get-go. You’ll first want to decide on a size. We have 12×12, 8×8, and 5×7 options. If you want to work with 5×7, you’ll have to decide between a scrapbook, greeting card, or announcement. Once you know the size you’d like to work with, choose to either start from a blank canvas or starting with a theme. *tip – you can add theme pages to any scrapbook! When in the builder you’ll see ‘pages’ on the right side of your screen, find the ‘import new page’ icon*

We think this is a streamlined way to get you started with your scrapbooks. Let us know what you think of the change!

Print from Home

March 19, 2010

Filed under: Make it Hybrid!, Tips and Tricks, Topic of the Day — Katy @ 3:20 pm

Wow, it is already almost the weekend! I have to admit, I was a little screwed up all week with the time change – gotta love the extra daylight though!! We’ve actually had a little bit of Spring weather here this week, too! I’m hoping it sticks around one more day for my nephew’s first birthday party, but I think it is supposed to get cold again :(

So anyways, today I wanted to share some more information about printing from home…Club Members can print from home as much as they’d like because it is all included in the $9.99 monthly fee (or $99 yearly fee). The print from home feature is awesome for ALL types of scrapbookers. When I say all types of scrapbookers I mean traditional paper, digital, and hybrid scrapbookers. I’ll break them down into those categories real quick

Traditional Scrappers: For $9.99/month you have literally THOUSANDS of papers and embellishments that you can print from the comfort of your own home! Even if you don’t have any desire to create digital layouts – you can still use the supplies! I know you are all exceptionally creative, so use your imagination and take advantage of the deal!

Digital Scrappers: This one is obvious, create your layouts and print them from home for instant gratification and bragging rights to your family :) If you don’t have a printer capable of printing 12×12’s you can always print 8×8 and 5×7.

Hybrid Scrappers: This is my personal favorite – combine digital with traditional! There are so many printing options for this type of scrapper. Create full layouts, print, add embellishments, and put them in albums/bind them, etc. OR do hybrid other types of projects and print papers/embellies to add to your work. Print whatever you want from the site – the possibilities are endless when it comes to what you can do from there!

Printer: I have a lot of people ask me how to get the best print results when printing from home. I am partial to my Epson R1900 which is capable of printing everything up to 12×12. I am not only partial to this printer, I am borderline obsessed. Ha! *Note – Epson is not a sponsor or affiliated with ScrapHD in any way, I just like my prints!* Seriously though, this is a printer that retails for about $400. I know that is expensive, but I don’t think it is insane if you plan to use it. I actually found mine on Ebay for $380 -with free shipping because it happened to be a local seller! There is also an older model of this printer which is also great and you can probably find it for a little less mondy, the Epson R1800.

Ink: Another thing that comes up in almost every print from home discussion is “how much ink will I be using?” This is definitely something to consider, and it’s another reason I like the Epson printers. The ink cartridges are all individual, so you can purchase the colors you need on an as-needed basis, which can be helpful. The cost to print from home will vary depending on a few factors. One being, what colors are being used and the complexity of the layout. I’ve been told a 12×12 layout can cost between 65 cents to $1.75 depending on what you’re trying to print.

Paper: We found that there was a NEED for scrapbooking photo paper that was high quality and affordable. So we came out with ScrapHD Photo Paper for scrapbooking! It prints incredibly – I promise it is top quality. It comes in true 12×12 and 8×8 size. If you want to know more about it or where you can get your hands on some leave me a comment. I’d be happy to point you in the right direction!

Let me know if you have any other questions about printing from home. Once you start doing it, it becomes addicting. I no longer purchase greeting cards for anybody, I create a personalized card on ScrapHD and print it (and sometimes hybrid it up) before giving it to the lucky recipient ;)

Have a fabulous weekend! I’ll be eating cake with my adorable 1 yr. old nephew!
